SWE ANNOUNCEMENTS -------------------------------------- NIGHT WITH INDUSTRY 2007 (ONE STAR) When: Tuesday, February 6, 6-9pm Where: Illini Union Ballrooms A & B Contact: Adriana, asiuper2@uiuc.edu Details: Come wine and dine with company representatives from various companies in the engineering industry. Companies attending are Boeing, Cisco, Ford, John Deere, Kimberly-Clark, Lyondell/Equistar, Northrop Grumman, Quaker, Rolls-Royce, S&C Electric, and Shell. Participation for the event is free but requires a $5 deposit that will be returned when you register the night of the event. PROFESSIONAL MEMBERSHIP UPGRADE When: Now Where: The upgrade form is attached to this e-mail Contact: Iris Caldwell at iris.caldwell@gmail.com Details: Have you ever thought about transitioning from a collegiate SWE member to a professional SWE member? The Society currently calls this process "upgrading". The cost to upgrade to a professional member is only $20. This year, Region H is paying for 25 membership upgrades. Details: The Champaign County YMCA is looking for a science camp coordinator for its summer day camp program. This individual is resposible for scheduling the week's activities focusing around different areas of science. Some prior experience with children is required, as well as a passion for sharing knowledge with others.
ATLANTA DIVERSITY LEADERSHIP POWER CONFRENCE When: February 15, 2007 Contact: Visit www.diversitypower.com to register and to obtain more information Details: Diversity Leadership Conferences are career events held throughout the country that bring minority students and alumni together, over dinner, with some of America's leading employers. Entering its 5th "season", there are two 3-hour events: one for undergraduates (juniors and seniors) called Collegiate Diversity Leadership Conferences and one for graduate students and alumni called Graduate Diversity Leadership Conferences.

Details: The National Science Foundation Science and Technology Centers (STCs) offer paid summer internships at their seventeen centers, located at prestigious universities around the United States. These summer internships provide undergraduates an opportunity to conduct research in a 'graduate school' setting in biological sciences, computer and information sciences, engineering, geosciences, and mathematical and physical sciences. PHI SIGMA PI RECRUITMENT/RUSH When: Informational nights are on Tuesday, January 30, and Wednesday January 31 at 7:00 PM in 196 Lincoln Hall Contact: Huda-Marie at hkutta2@uiuc.edu Details: Phi Sigma Pi is a National Coeducational Honor Fraternity based on three principles: leadership, scholarship, and fellowship. All majors are welcome, and those interested must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Additionally, most of our brothers are involved in many other organizations outside of Phi Sigma Pi.

VODAFONE SCHOLARSHIP When: Application Deadline is February 13, 2007, 4:00 pm. Contact: Chelsey, cwalker2@uiuc.edu for application instructions. Email all completed materials to btrimble@uiuc.edu. Details: Applications are being accepted for the Vodafone-U.S. Foundation 2007-08 undergraduate scholarships. Seven or eight undergraduates will be selected from applicants in engineering departments with research interests in wireless communications engineering and technology. Scholars will conduct a research project under the guidance of a faculty member the following academic year.
SWE CENTRAL ILLINOIS SCHOLARSHIP When: Application deadline March 31, 2007 Contact: Scholarship Chairman Stacey DelVelcchio at delvecchio_stacey_m@cat.com Details: Two $250 scholarships are available for female high school seniors, continuing college students, transfer college students, graduate students and re-entry students who will be attending an ABET accredited engineering school to pursue a BS or higher degree full time or studying an ABET accredited program offered outside an engineering school in the Fall of 2007.
